A "special needs" dog, Dondi was a wild animal when I got him from the puppy mill where he was used as a breeder dog. He was never a pet. He was just a piece of equipment used to line the puppy millers' pockets.
Puppy millers are usually very abusive to the animals they own and
Dondi's total and absolute fear of humans indicated that he has been very badly abused by someone.
It took him about a month to begin to trust me. It took him TWO YEARS to learn to trust anyone else. He is extremely loving and affectionate with me; however, he needs to be in a permanent home where
he can be given all the attention and love he so desperately wants and needs.
He could possibly accept a very settled, single woman who does not
have a lot of company or a lot of activity going on. He is more fearful of men than women, yet he has trusted one or two a little.
Dondi needs someone who is very patient and very understanding. He still panics now and then and will need reassuring often by gentle hands.
This adoption will have to be a local one. This placement will need to be monitored closely to make sure Dondi is accepting his new best friend.
