Bunny, a purebred Pomeranian, was born in a puppy mill. She and all of her brothers and sisters got very sick. They had distemper. Puppy mill owners do not waste any time or money on immunization shots or
veterinarian attention for their "money" machines. When a puppy or adult dog becomes sick, they are inhumanely "done away with." Bunny and her brothers and sisters were tossed out to die.
A kind lady who knew about the lighthouse, found the pups and pulled
little Bunny from the pile of very sick puppies and brought her to me. I only wish she had brought them all.
Bunny is brain damaged. Her vision is very limited. She cannot see straight ahead. She has peripheral vision only. She also has a spinal deformity. She walks with a very "stilted" gait
because her back legs do not work correctly. When she runs, her two back legs operate together, like a bunny rabbit. Thus the name "Bunny." All of these problems are due to the distemper she endured as an infant in
the puppy mill.
She is now a much loved member of the Lighthouse Animal Rescue family. She will always be loved and cared for here at our home. She is a very lively and happy little girl. She plays tug-o-war with the
other dogs, grabs them by the tail and hangs on. All the other dogs are
extremely gentle and patient with her. It is clear that they understand that
she is "special."
If things had happened differently, she could have ended up at the bottom of
a pile of dead puppies.
Please remember Bunny's story. Help stop puppy mills by never purchasing an animal from a pet shop and by telling your friends about Bunny. Pet shops buy their animals from puppy mills and catteries. These places are torture chambers for the animals. More information about puppy mills is available through the links on my home page.
